In an attempt to stick to our movie-related New Years resolutions, Jess and I plan to keep a weekly record of our progress towards our goal. See if we hit our goal this week and what movies we watched. You can also check out our initial resolutions post here.

My big goal this year is to watch three types of movies a week:

  • 1 New Movie (anything that has come out in the last 3-4 months)
  • 1 Movie From My Netflix Queue (it has to be from the list I cemented in stone at the beginning of 2014 to count)
  • 1 Movie I’ve Been Meaning to Rewatch

Lets take a look at what was watched this past week.

New Movies:

  • What We Do In The Shadows – This vampire mockumentary was exactly what I expected – superbly silly and funny. Very much in line with other comedic work by Jemaine Clement.

Re-watched:

  • Clueless – Revisited an old favorite that I haven’t watch in full for awhile now. It was to get in the mood for a 90’s themed birthday party over the weekend… and it definitely worked.

Off the Queue:

  • Frank – Even though I was somewhat prepared that this movie would hit emotional notes, I was still surprised by how dark it got. It goes from a quirky indie comedy to a serious drama by the end. Michael Fassbender does wonders with a masked character though.

New Movies:

  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 – I’m increasingly impressed by the fact that this young adult story has continued so gracefully. I’m glad that I waited for a home viewing of this installment as there aren’t too many big screen scenes. Still, I enjoy the overall story and Lawrence’s portrayal as Katniss enough to stay invested in the conclusion of the series.

Re-watched:

  • Burn After Reading – I still found this very funny and entertaining on a second watch. The plot and the characters are so over the top and zany that I can’t help but love it. See it for the meathead Brad Pitt performance and the dick chair.

Off the Queue:

  • Jane Eyre – Beautiful performances but the movie was a bit of a slog for me at times. More than likely it was just my disinterest in the subject matter and early morning viewing. Gorgeous movie, though.
