Let’s take a look at the new home releases for the week including what’s available on Blu Ray/DVD and Video on Demand.

What’s it about?
Ken Wantanabe and Sally Hawkins study giant monsters that somehow nobody else notices. Eventually a few of the smaller ones get pissed off and go tearassing around the world, upsetting KickAss and his family. A larger one named Godzilla is also a little rattled by this and decides to do something about it. Because of this, Gareth Edwards gets to make a Star Wars movie.
Did Scott see it?
Sure did!
And…
Balls, pure balls. The movie looks and sounds great, it’s just too bad none of the actors gave a shit aside from Bryan Cranston. Making Aaron Taylor-Johnson the lead was depressing, Hayden Christensen was more fun to watch as Anakin. That being said, the visuals and effects worked and I can’t wait to see what Edwards does with Star Wars. Hopefully, actors will try for that movie.

What’s it about?
Sad bastard Hazel has cancer. She meets optimistic, metaphormaking bastard Gus at a support group for cancer patients. He also has cancer. They fall in love and have a cancerfilled relationship, so you know it’ll be sad when they have to deal with the cancer. Also, cancer.
Did Scott see it?
Yep, love that Mike Birbiglia! No clue how this movie got the reviews it did…
Who’s he and why should I care?
What you should do is spend the time you were planning on watching this shit cancer movie and instead go watch some of Mike Birbiglia’s standup specials. The best part of this movie was the one shot where he played Mario Kart. The rest of the movie is like that cancer story someone wrote in your college creative writing class. I’m sure the real experience was terrible and sad, but when the whole thing is so forced and on the surface, there’s not much left except the movie yelling at me at how sad I should be. I don’t like being told how to feel! Instead, a movie should be making me feel because I’m rooting for the characters to beat whatever affliction is hindering them, cancer or whatever. 50/50 is a good recent example of a successful movie on the topic. The Fault in Our Stars is a pretentious piece of dogshit that I wish had AIDS.
AKA Awesome Movie Nobody Saw
RottenTomatoes 92% | IMDB 7.3
What’s it about?
A struggling musician joins a strange indie rock band with the unpronouncable name The Soronprfbs. The band is fronted by Frank, an eccentric who never removes his papermache head. Imagine what a movie based on The Adventures of Pete & Pete would look like, give it a plot revolving around a band, and you’re somewhat on the right track.
Why did nobody see this?
I never thought this movie would be a hit with mainstream audiences, but I thought it would have a better response from the art house crowd. It stars Michael Fassbender as Frank, and also features Maggie Gyllenhaal, Domhnall Gleeson, and Scoot McNnairy. Frank is available on VOD and I’d highly recommend checking it out, especially since you’re a weirdo reading an obscure movie review website named after a breakfast food. The audience for this movie is you, dammit!
RottenTomatoes: 91% | IMDB: 7.4
What’s it about?
It’s about the dude with the hair who looks creepy as all fuck. Aside from that, no goddamn idea. It’s directed by David Lynch, so I’m guessing it’ll push my boundaries for weird shit that may or may not have some underlying meaning.
Why haven’t you seen it?
I love David Lynch, but you need to be in a certain mood for his stuff. Mulholland Dr., Blue Velvet, and Inland Empire are all great in their own ways, but they’re definitely a commitment. I’ve also been wanting to see The Straight Story, which is apparently a very straightforward and well liked film. Also the only thing Lynch made that was rated G.
