Rounding out the FTS’ crew lists of our top films of  last year,  Nick gives us some insight into his top 10 choices (and one honorable mention.) [List by Nck.]

11. (Honorable Mention) Louisiana Fairytale

I caught two screenings of this film and absolutely fell in love with it. It’s a fantastic concert/music history film with astounding performances.

10. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I wasn’t expecting such an emotional impact from this movie. Andy Serkis definitely deserves some type of recognition for his work.

9. The Beaver

This dark comedy from Jodie Foster, for me, marks the return of Mel Gibson. I hope to see more performances from him like this in the future. The film also has a subplot involving Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence, two actors whom work I enjoy very very much.

8. Attack The Block

After buying the Blu-Ray and watching this a few more times, it became a film I enjoy more and more with each viewing. Believe bruv!

7. The Muppets

Since the announcement of this film I was counting down the days. As a big Muppets fan myself, it was great to see the gang reintroduced to a new generation. Made me dust off the seasons on DVD and give them a watch. Great performances and perfect Muppet humor, Jason Segel did a fantastic job breathing life back into my childhood idols.

6. 50/50

One of two movies that made me laugh loudly, but cry even harder in theaters. An awesome film with amazing performances from everyone involved.

5. Like Crazy

The other film that made me laugh loudly, but cry even harder in theaters. I sang its praises in my review when I saw it at the New Orleans Film Festival, and I can’t praise Anton Yelchin or Felicity Jones enough.

4. Bellflower

So thankful I caught a special screening of this. Recently bought the Blu-Ray and found myself as captivated if not more so then when I saw it in theaters. Such intense performances by unknowns really show what passionate people can do with an idea, friends, cameras, and a car that shoots flames.

3. Midnight in Paris

Didn’t get to see this in theaters but I recently Netflix’ed it and fell in love from the get go. Great performances and impeccable writing make this fantastic film from Woody Allen a no brainer for top three of 2011.

2. Red State

Not much more needs to be said. I’ve been gushing about this film as a school girl since I saw it.

1. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I mean this is an obvious choice. I was blown away from start to finish. Another close-enough-to-be-a-masterpiece from Fincher and I can’t wait for the Blu-ray so I’ll try and see it again in theaters soon.
