I hope everyone is ready for 50,000 end of 2011 film lists! I decided to start off with a pretty simple one for the end of 2011 by showcasing my favorite soundtracks of the year. Take a look and tell me what you think about my choices.
30 Minutes Or Less
I highly doubt 30 Minutes or Less will show up on a lot of Top 10 lists this year, but I can’t deny it was one of my favorite soundtracks of the year. There are several song choices in the film that I vividly remember reacting to in the theater in a very positive way. The movie is a slacker/stoner comedy that has some nice upbeat jams to crank the film up a level. Favorite tracks include: “Tick Tick Boom” by The Hives, “Sure Shot” by Beastie Boys, “Is There Any Love” by Kid Cudi,”Ante Up” by M.O.P. and “Got Your Money” by Ol Dirty Bastard
The Muppets
What’s one of the biggest reasons everyone loves The Muppets? Why, the music of course! It would be a crime not to include The Muppets on your list for best soundtrack, or in a category for the year’s Best Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical (ahem, GOLDEN GLOBES!) Favorite tracks include: Life’s A Happy Song”, “Party of One”, “Man Or A Muppet”, “Rainbow Connection” and “Mah Na Mah Na”
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
I’m still getting through this soundtrack as it’s the most recent inclusion on this list but was there ever any doubt as to whether or not it would show up here? Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross made the best soundtrack of 2010 with The Social Network and I’ve been dying for more ever since. Favorite tracks include: “Immigrant Song” cover by Karen O, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross. It’s sooooo good.
Drive
It’s not suprising that one of the coolest films from 2011 also had one of the coolest soundtracks. The girlie 80’s electro pop soundtrack is a perfect fit for Drive’s sexy and sleezy vibe. The soundtrack was actually one of the movie’s main focus’ because the idea to make the film stemmed from this:
“We’re gonna make a movie about a man who drives around in a car at night, listening to pop music, because that’s his emotional relief.” – Nicolas Winding Refn (Director of Drive)
Favorite tracks include: “Nightcall” byKavinsky (feat. Lovefoxxx), “Under Your Spell” by Desire, “A Real Hero” by College (feat. Electric Youth), “Tick of the Clock” by Chromatics
1. Hanna
After the year is all said and done, the Hanna soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers still remains my favorite of the year. Not only do the catchy beats elevate the entire mood of the film, they also make for some pretty good listening. Favorite tracks include: “Hanna’s Theme”, “The Devil is in the Details”, “The Devil is in the Beats”, and “Container Park”
