What’s it about?
“Tom Hanks stars as the American attorney tasked with negotiating the release of a U-2 spy plane pilot who was shot down over Russia at the height of the Cold War in this historical drama from DreamWorks Studios. Nate’s Two Cents?
This wasn’t my favorite Spielberg or Hanks film but overall I still enjoyed it. The story was pretty good, even though a thing or two could have been left out that wasn’t necessary. Last year Nick and myself screened the movie together and both tagteamed it and wrote reviews. For our full thoughts head here.

Nate’s Two Cents?
I must admit I was very against seeing this movie when I saw the trailers and even upon its initial release. But then I read an article about how it was a pretty decent flick and decided to give it a shot. I must say I was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed myself quite bit, so much so that I am looking forward to the next film in the series. If action/fantasy is up your alley then be sure to check this one out this week!!

roadracers

Roadracers

Who’s in it?
David Arquette, Salma Hayek, John Hawkes, William Sadler

What’s it about?
“Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi) was a last-minute replacement for Showtime’s Rebel series and after the first viewing, his Roadracers was immediately bumped to the top of the list. This melodramatic tale of rebel youth fighting to get out of a dead-end town is often times enjoyable and disturbingly humorous but lacks the break-neck pacing of Rodriguez’ other films.” – Rotten Tomatoes

Nate’s Two Cents?
I stumbled across this gem last week while continuing to plow my way through everything that is Netflix. I was surprised that Rodriguez had directed a made-for-tv film but was willing to give it a chance. In the end I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit. It’s by far not your typical action packed Rodriguez feature, but the story isn’t bad and it still has shots that remind you exactly whose work you’re watching. Watching Arquette grease his hair several times, scooping more and more grease is at time gross to watch and actually reminds me of something I might see in a John Waters flick but it works nonetheless. Give it a watch this week and let us know what you think!

Suffragette

“Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, lead the cast of a powerful drama about the women who were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality in early-20th-century Britain. The stirring story centers on Maud (played by Carey Mulligan), a working wife and mother whose life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the U.K.’s growing suffragette movement. Galvanized by the outlaw fugitive Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep), Maud becomes an activist for the cause alongside women from all walks of life. When increasingly aggressive police action forces Maud and her dedicated fellow suffragettes underground, they engage in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with the authorities, who are shocked as the women’s civil disobedience escalates and sparks debate across the nation. Inspired by true events, SUFFRAGETTE is a moving drama exploring the passion and heartbreak of those who risked all they had for women’s right to vote – their jobs, their homes, their children, and even their lives. The film also stars Ben Whishaw, Anne-Marie Duff, Brendan Gleeson, Romola Garai, and Natalie Press. SUFFRAGETTE is directed by BAFTA Award winner Sarah Gavron from an original screenplay by Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan.” – Focus Features

It’s going to take a night of pretending to be someone else for Nancy to finally man up and be her painfully honest, awesomely unconventional self… but will Jack also man up, and be able to get over her duplicity? Best just to let the evening unfold, roll with the consequences, and see if one crazy, unpredictable, complicated night can bring these two messy souls together.” – Rotten Tomatoes
