Here to take a look at the films coming out in wide and limited release this coming weekend. I’ll give you my thoughts to help you decide what’s worth checking out.
- Terminator: Genisys – This franchise sequel/reboot has Kyle Reese traveling back in time to protect a young Sarah Connor setting a new course of events into motion.
Directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World)
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Babe of the Week Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney
I haven’t seen any films in the Terminator franchise, so I don’t have much authority in judging this sequel. I know when the trailer came out people thought it looked SO BAD, and watching the trailer completely blind I can’t quite say why. Are the line call backs corny? Is that bus set piece ridiculous? I don’t know, it all seems pretty in line with other action movies and sequels. Let me know what I’m missing that’s so bad! Meanwhile, the first movie is actually on its way to me from Netflix so I’ll finally start catching up with this blind spot of mine. - Magic Mike XXL – Mike joins his old group of hotties on the road to participate in a convention of male entertainer performances.
Directed by Gregory Jacobs
Starring Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard
READ MY REVIEW and then go see this movie if you like having fun.
- Amy – A documentary about the life, career, and ultimately tragedy of the gifted singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.
Directed by Asif Kapadia (Senna)
While I appreciate and really like all of the Amy Winehouse music that I’ve heard, I am not nearly well-versed enough to consider myself a true fan. It’s depressing and unfortunate when any young person’s life is overtaken by addiction and especially when their lives are cut short no matter the cause. This documentary looks touching and revealing, with a ton of behind the scenes footage of Winehouse. It seems like a great watch whether you’re a big fan of hers or not, but it also seems heartbreaking.
