MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL

#05 /Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Ghost Protocol is the fourth movie in the Mission Impossible franchise. It stars Tom Cruise, reprising his role as Ethan Hunt, alongside Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner (during a good action film run for him), and Simon Pegg. The team has to go rogue and operate under Ghost Protocol, which involves climbing super high buildings in Dubai and being chased by sandstorms. A solid action film, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is a popcorn movie that extends its entertainment level above normal summer blockbuster status, especially considering it was released in December. – Rob

#04 / John Wick

John Wick was one of those movies that completely caught me off guard, I did not expect this to be one of my favorite action films of the last five years. John Wick gives you a simple enough plot, a mobster’s kid finds himself on the wrong side of a legendary ex-hitman and shit gets real. John Wick is an awesome red-blooded, high octane, action ride from start to finish. And lets not forget that this is Keanu Reeves best performance in a long time. – Marc

#03 / The Raid 2

The much anticipated sequel to the first Raid film, ups the ante with non-stop action. The true magic of this film is the expertly choreographed and oft over-the-top fight scenes. Taking place just after the events of the first film, this movie takes place in a much larger setting and as such allows for significantly more plot and character development. I thoroughly enjoyed the first film, but to me the sequel feels like more of a complete package. While centered mostly around the action/fight sequences, this is a very well made film. – Will

skyfall-action

#02 / Skyfall

There’s a single moment in Skyfall which, if we were ranking our Top 5 Coolest Movie Moments from the past 5 years, would be my number one by a considerable margin, and it’s during the opening action set piece. It’s the moment when, after using an excavation digger to knock some cars off a moving train, Bond uses said digger to rip a hole into and latch onto a carriage further up the train, from which the digger has become uncoupled. Bond then runs across the digger’s arm, jumps into the freshly open carriage, and immediately checks his cuffs. It’s the single coolest thing I’ve ever seen anyone do. As action movies go, Skyfall is one of the best – possibly the best Bond film since Goldfinger – comprising of at least five big set pieces, all of which are memorable and feel disticnt from one another, be it a tussle with some goons in a pit housing komodo dragons, or defending a crumbling old mansion with Home-Alone-style traps. And every damn shot looks simply spectacular. Let’s hope Mendes brings it all again with Spectre later this year. – Jay

Raid-action

#01 / The Raid: Redemption

Oh you like hand-to-hand combat? Oh you like gun fights? Oh, you also like action in closed spaces? Well this is the film for you, and then some. We don’t need no plot, just a non-stop assault of perfected choreographic action sequences that make any and all previous martial arts films look like child’s play. – Nick
