A DAY IN PHILLY
Jess, Rob, Jason and I started our bus ride to Philadelphia the proper way – COFFEE!
We headed straight for Federal Donuts, a local shop that serves up interesting donut flavors and scrumptious fried chicken. This is, hands down the best breakfast I have had so far this year. I can’t stress enough how delicious the food is. I actively fantasize about eating here.
Spotted a solider just doing his thing, probably on his way to get Starbucks.
Went over to Franklin Square for a bit
Rode on a carousel. Despite Rob’s face, he was adamantly against this idea.
Stopped in OCF for another Coffee Break.
Good coffee and a relaxed environment. It seemed like a good coffee shop to take your laptop along and stay awhile.
EASTERN STATE PENITENTIARY
Eastern State is an old prison (now a U.S. National Historic Landmark) located in Philly that became one of the first American prisons to practice reform over punishment. It housed some notorious criminals in it’s day such as Willie Sutton and Al Capone. It was a really interesting experience taking a tour of the prison. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. Take a look at some photos I took during our walk through.
And that is a recreation of Al Capone’s cell.
After our tour of the building, I needed more coffee, obvs. So I grabbed a cup at Mugshots.
Then we waited in line for some cheese steaks. (We ate at Gino’s but we agreed that Pat’s is really the winner.)
Later we got some drinks and more tasty treats at a German bar called Brauhaus Schmitz. Thumbs up.
Later we went to a few more bars including Barcade, a fantastic arcade bar. Overall, it was a very fun day in the city.
