coldHere to take a look at the films coming out in wide and limited release this coming weekend. I’ll give you my thoughts to help you decide what’s worth checking out.

wide

  • X-Men: Days of Future Past – So we get Godzilla one week and this the next? That’s a pretty stellar line up. I enjoyed X-Men, X2, and loved X-Men: First Class so this was one of my most anticipated movies this year, especially as far as the action/blockbuster genre goes. I love the concept of uniting the cast of the original trilogy with the prequel cast members. The idea of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy coming face to face with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen has me giddy actually. This is a must see in theaters for me.
  • Blended – As the third romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, this one just is not doing it. Their collaborations have gone downhill, from The Wedding Singer which I adore to 50 First Dates which was pretty mediocre but at least somewhat cute to this very generic looking excuse for a vacation. Hey, at least they brought Terry Crews along with them.

limited

  • Cold in July – This is a crime drama about a man who kills a home intruder and becomes wrapped up in bigger issues like the intruder’s father who isn’t happy his son was shot and possible police corruption. Michael C. Hall stars and he looks incredibly different than his most well known work in Dexter and Six Feet Under. Those parts had sophistication to them, while in this he plays more of an everyman. It looks like it could be an entertaining thriller and the fact that it’s directed by a horror director, Jim Mickle, has me looking forward to checking it out at some point.
Available through Video on Demand and see where it’s playing in theaters here.
