Take a peek at Lindsay’s picks for fun and light films to check out over this holiday season. Here are six alternative movies to the 24 hour Christmas Story channel.
Elf – This Christmas flick hasn’t been around too long but is already a favorite in many households. Elf is a cute, simple movie that offers up just enough holiday cheer to brighten you up without overwhelming you. Throw Elf in the DVD player if you have to wrap some gifts or bake some cookies. And if you’re with a more spirited group, try playing FTS’ Elf movie drinking game!
Home Alone 2 – This is one of my favorite movies to watch every season! Home Alone 2 reminds me of my childhood and how funny and charismatic MuCulley Culkin is. The premise is silly but the goofy jokes are hard not to laugh at. I love the first Home Alone film as well, but the sequel gives off a more Christmas feel, and don’t forget you get a good dose of Tim Curry!
Just Friends – This movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Ferris didn’t get many accolades or box office dollars but it never fails to make me laugh. The flick doesn’t take itself too seriously and has some great moments between characters. See it for Anna Faris’ hilarious turn as a conceited pop star and the very funny Ryan Reynolds.
Dead Snow – Admittedly not my favorite in the zomcom category, but Dead Snow is a decent campy horror flick with some nice gore moments. Nazi Zombies = No more explanation needed.
Out Cold – This may be a ridiculous film involving beer, Jason London and snowboarding but I have to fess up that I like this movie so much I often quote it in my daily life. There are some really funny characters, including Zack Galifinakis in a role before he became the Hangover superstar. Watch this one with your buds for a night of drinking and cards.
The Thing – The Thing rules. You really should watch this no matter what time of the year it is. It is the ultimate in horror and more importantly creature effects. After watching the special fx in The Thing, any CGI movie you see after it will leave you disappointed.
