What We Thought:
Lindsay: The reboot? The remake? Sure Scream 4 is sort of those things but overall, it just turns out to be another sequel. The main three are back: Sid, Gail and Dewy but of course there is a new killer on the loose, terrorizing a whole new crop of Woodsboro teens. Without giving away any of the plot, I can say that there will be a lot for fans of the series. There are some great gags and reoccurring themes that no one will be disappointed in. The movie doesn’t nearly boast as many scares as it does laughs so take that for what you will. I quite enjoyed it and I don’t think I’ll be shying away from the series anytime soon (that is, if they decide to make anymore.) And if you’re wondering how it stacks up? I’d say this is the second best in the series (second to the original, duh.)

Jess: Sitting through Scream 4 felt like a treat to me. I thought that this movie took a lot from the past few years of horror cliches and worked them in with creativity, but without being overtly cheesy with it. There are a lot of antics that a fan of the series would be able to pick up on and appreciate. I can only hope this insider mentality does not lead the film to suffer because I thought it was super enjoyable. My only wish would be for it be as scary as the prior installments, but the comedy was so well done that it made up for the lack of scares. At this point the series works just as well as a mystery who-done-it, and does a great job of making you guess until the very end. It was worthy of a follow-up and if any more were made with this quality I would be into it.
Rob: Scream 4 had a sort of disadvantage from me because I had only seen the first installment of the four part series. I still enjoyed the movie and was able to appreciate it, but I feel that if I would’ve seen parts 2 and 3, I would’ve been more into the characters and felt more attached to the story. I had a lot of fun watching the film, but I kind of got the impression other people were enjoying it a little more. One thing that the movie really did well was with story development. If something happened that I felt could’ve been different, the story would continue in a way that made me okay with the way it was paying out. It made for a fun experience. Essentially, I agree with the people who say Scream 4 will be enjoyed more by Scream fans. I feel like Insidious was the better horror movie of the year, though I feel like Scream wasn’t aiming to be strictly horror.
