Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of Bullet to the Head: The Expendables.
Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed The Expendables as a callback to action movies like they used to make in the 80’s. Bullet to the Head is Stallone’s first movie after The Expendables and its sequel, The Expendables 2. While Stallone wasn’t involved with the creative process of Bullet to the Head as he was with his previous two movies, the films should all equally satisfy anyone looking for a hard action romp.
Instead of Warm Bodies: Zombieland
Both Warm Bodies and Zombieland are innovative takes on the zombie movie genre. There are a lot of zombie movies, and zombies have been sort of the rage as of late, so it’s nice to see movies taking the topic in different directions. Both movies are heavier on the comedy elements than the horror elements and, like most movies, have a romantic connection. Zombieland plays a little more to the gamer/stoner crowd, but should be a great substitute.
Flight (2012)
This film stars Denzel Washington as a pilot who abuses drugs and alcohol. He wakes up the morning of a flight after getting very little sleep due to his addictions and then continues to use drugs to help him get through that flight. While piloting the plane, he has his copilot take control while he tries to sleep after sneaking some vodka. He wakes to find the plane nose diving out of the sky. He manages to land the plane as safely as possible, saving almost everyone on-board. Soon, however, it gets out that he was intoxicated during the flight and thus causes him a great deal of trouble.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)
Ghost Protocol is the fourth film in the Mission Impossible movie franchise. It stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, leader of the IMF team. Simon Pegg returns as a member of that team and Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton are on as newcomers. The film contains an intriguing plot and some impressive stunt work, with Tom Cruise hanging off of the tallest building in the world in Dubai. Ghost Protocol is a well done, big budget action movie. If you’re looking for something new to watch at home, check this one out on Netflix Instant Watch.
Mission Impossible: Ghost ProtocolNetflix Synopsis: Super-agent Ethan Hunt dangles from skyscrapers and otherwise takes daring to new heights on another operation from the Impossible Missions Force. Helping Hunt get the job done is droll fellow IMF agent Luther Stickel.
