Have you heard of Escape Rooms before? They are all the rage these days but some of you might still be wondering what exactly an escape room is. Recently, FTS had the wonderful opportunity to check out a couple local escape rooms at Escape45. Keep reading to find out more about the experience and our recommendations!

So, what is an Escape Room?

“Escape Rooms” are essentially problem solving games. A group or team must work together and figure out clues and puzzles in order to “escape”.

More specifically for Escape45:

We are a real life escape game where teams race against the clock in order to escape. Teams will need to use their logic, wit, and communication skills in order to solve our riddles and puzzles. The goal is to solve the mystery and escape within 45 minutes!

Our Escape45 Challenge

Our room was “Sully’s Haunted Cabin”, much to Nick’s dismay. The premise was simple: Sully died in an old, cursed cabin and was tormented by the ghost that inhabited it. Fortunately, Sully left the next poor souls that entered the cabin a series of strangle symbols and clues on how to escape. The problem is, you only have 45 minutes to piece everything together before you’re stuck with the demented ghost forever.

Our Experience

To say that these escape room experiences were designed for FTS would be an understatement. As many of our podcast listeners know, we love to put on our own murder mysteries already. We worked really well as a team and took turns scouring the room for clues and ideas. I was so proud of us!

The room activities were so much fun and the staff at Escape 45 was so accommodating. After we left, we were already planning our next outing and thinking of our own escape room ideas!

Here’s what everyone else thought:

NICK SAID: “I had so much fun at Escape 45! The puzzles were the right combination of challenging and fun. It was great having friends along and we definitely had a blast escaping our room. I can’t wait to go back and try the other rooms!!” -Nick

JESS SAID: “Mysteries are probably one of my most favorite things. It interests me intensely. So the chance to solve your own mystery is pretty much the coolest idea to me. Escape 45 was my first chance to experience one of these Escape rooms that have been popping up all over. If you live in Baltimore, this one is super easy to get to right in Mount Vernon and they’ve really crafted some interesting rooms with very different mysteries. We ended up in the horror-themed room which worked perfectly for our group. It was a blast figuring out the clues and putting everything together. We almost were completely stumped on one riddle put before us and when someone (cough cough Marc) figured out the answer we all freaked out with pure excitement. I definitely recommend going in a group because the puzzles can difficult. 7 minds really covered the bases with us and it was still a challenge. Seeing that door pop open and realizing you solved the mystery was an exhilaration I imagined only the likes of Sherlock Holmes and Veronica Mars had experienced before the escape room concept was born.”

ROB SAID: “Escape 45 is a fun place operating out of an office building in Baltimore. Even though you take an elevator up to Escape 45, they have done a great job of making feel like you are in an old cabin or the captain’s quarters of a ship. With multiple rooms to solve, there is a level of difficulty available for everyone. The staff is able to suggest which room is best based on your previous escape room experience.”

All of us had a blast at Escape45 and can’t wait to go back and try out new room!
