In an attempt to stick to our movie-related New Years resolutions, Jess and I plan to keep a weekly record of our progress towards our goal. See if we hit our goal this week and what movies we watched. You can also check out our initial resolutions post here.

My big goal this year is to watch three types of movies a week:

  • 1 New Movie (anything that has come out in the last 3-4 months)
  • 1 Movie From My Netflix Queue (it has to be from the list I cemented in stone at the beginning of 2014 to count)
  • 1 Movie I’ve Been Meaning to Rewatch

Lets take a look at what was watched this past week.

New Movies:

  • True Story – This definitely hit my interests, with the cross cut between a true crime story and a journalist. Jonah Hill and James Franco do well in their roles, and aside from a few very cliche moments it’s an interesting watch.

Re-watched:

  • Charade – On my favorites from the lovely Audrey Hepburn. She’s so darn funny in this, and her and Cary have such wonderful chemistry. This is just an all around fun movie, and I didn’t remember all the twists and turns so it was even better.

Off the Queue:

  • Swimming With Sharks – Kevin Spacey is so horribly great here. His character is so awful, in the most studio exec from hell way you can imagine. I read that it was rumored he might be based on Scott Rudin (from those amazing Sony leaked emails) which made it even better. The dark comedy elements of the abduction part really paid off huge in the end.

New Movies:

  • I’ll be doubling up next week!

Re-watched:

  • Children of Men  – Rewatched front to back again for an upcoming FTS mini episode and was blown away like always. Really a tremendous effort from Cuarón that remains as thought-provoking and intense as the first time I watched it.
  • Prime  – Nothing overly special but a sweet and romantic film that rises above the usual crappy fare of the genre. Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman are both quite likable.
