#05 /Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
I’m really giving my best trying to explain why Scott Pilgrim is the awesomest awesome comedy of all awesome comedies… but it’s haaard. While we’re at it, you know what sucks? Everything. Except for this movie. It has it all: the flawed hero trying to pursue a path of righteousness to save the beautiful princess, seven (!) challenging villains, a gay-nator and The Power of Self-Respect. There is nothing more to ask for. – Mette
#04 / Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids is about a woman whose life is falling apart just in time to be maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. It’s great to see women’s stories in comedies and for them to take front and center creatively and on screen. This movie made many say “yes woman are funny”, and me say “fuck you” to those people because obviously hilarious women are hilarious. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumulo’s screenplay and performances including Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, and Megan McCarthy are all incredibly funny. Bridesmaids is responsible for bumping the profiles up for McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, and Chris O’Dowd… not to mention giving Jon Hamm a fantastic part that shows why he needs to be in way more comedies. It’s so much fun seeing this cast be silly, raunchy, and completely gross at times, but it’s also got a sweet center about the love between best friends. – Jess
#03 / Ted
Hilarious, irreverent, and relentlessly quotable, Ted is a powerhouse of a comedy film. Led by Mark Wahlberg, who is a more than capable comedic actor, and the voice of the unmistakable Seth Macfarlane as Ted, the witty dialogue and hilarious repartee is what really makes this film shine. It’s the story of a boy and his talking teddy bear and the struggles they encounter as they go through life. There are quite a few memorable scenes and even more memorable lines, this film will have you in stitches from beginning to end. – Will
#02 / 21 Jump Street
I always respect films that embrace and make fun of the genres in which they operate. 21 Jump Street knows exactly what it is, and it comments on it incessantly. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have perfect comedic chemistry, and the action is also great. This is a quotable and creative (despite the references to the TV show on which it’s of course loosely based) comedy that I will always love. – Sara
#01 / This Is The End
This Is The End is a self-aware meta masterpiece that may have only worked so well because audiences were already so familiar with the comedic actors at the core. The hilarious cast features James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson all playing heightened versions of themselves, playing on the strange dynamics of the group as the apocalypse starts during a house party. It’s off the wall and totally vulgar and contains the hands-down best argument about jerking off ever put to film. Obviously, a must-see. – Lindsay
