Remember: Coffee Break is full of odds and ends I’d like to discuss including films I’m watching, links I like, stuff I’m into and oh yeah, coffee!

This is the person I’ve become. That dog person. It’s totally worth is though because Ellie is adorable and lovely.

But how can I ever expect to get any work done when this is happening next to me?

Focus-2015-Movie

I’ve been keeping up with my resolutions this year which means I’ve been watching plenty of movies. A recent watch I enjoyed more than I expected was the new Will Smith feature Focus. The film follows Nicky (Smith) – a career con man that reluctantly agrees to take in Jess (Margo Robbie) as an apprentice of sorts. It’s a story very typical of the genre but it adds enough fresh moments to keep viewers on their toes and remains self aware throughout. There are some minor tonal struggles and I wish the two leads had just a pinch more chemistry together onscreen but overall I found the movie to be a good time. There are a few great scenes and lines of dialogue that I loved so it’s a bummer that the total package was just shy of something truly special. I would still recommend checking the movie out as long as your expectations aren’t too high.

TV Edition:

Broad City I just binge watched all of the episodes of the current season to catch up and I could seriously watch this all day. The show seems to have found its footing this season and is owning it. Laugh out loud funny every episode.

Better Call Saul: I’m enjoying the Breaking Bad spin off quite a bit. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the series but it’s much closer in tone to it’s predecessor than I could have ever hoped for.

House of Cards: Is it bad that the same lady that once looked a pregnant lady in the face and told her she was prepared to let her baby wither and die also inspires me to be productive? Clair Underwood, you a bad bitch.

Groundhog Day at the Alamo Drafthouse

2015-03-01

For Jason & my anniversary this year, we celebrated by seeing Groundhog Day at the Alamo Drafthouse! The movie has some sentimental meaning but what sold us was the awesome menu planned out. That third pie was out of control delicious!

Valentine’s Day coffee break at Zeke’s Coffee

cb-mar-03

For Valentine’s Day, Jason and I went to see Kingsman: The Secret Service (and loved it) but not before having a coffee break at at my new favorite place in Baltimore – Zeke’s Coffee. I’ve been a fan of Zeke’s for a while but I had never been to their small shop before. My lovely, amazing unicorn of a best friend Jess bought me a gift card for my birthday which prompted a visit and I could not be more thankful. I’m considering a move to some place nearby so I can stop in every day for breakfast/lunch/whenever they’re open.

British Birthday Wishes

Proving to be one of the greatest friends I’ve never actually met, the unquantifiably fantastic Jay Cluitt and his creative co-pilot Aisha sent me this amazing Birthday care package!

My Brit Swag included tons of chocolates, candies, caramels and snacks. At this point I think there are only one or two pieces left thanks to Jason’s nightly recommendation that we “break out the box.” Oh and there was one more thing…

FLAPJACKS! No, not pancakes you silly Americans. Flapjacks means something entirely different in jolly ol’ England. Also known as an “oat bar” here is how Wikipedia describes flapjacks:

“A flapjack, muesli bar, cereal bar, or granola bar is a sweet tray-baked oat bar made from rolled oats, butter, brown sugar and golden syrup.”

I know what you’re thinking: “A GRANOLA bar? Where’s the fluffy, puffy syrupy goodness?” This is what I was also concerned with. But the Britjack was actually quite yummy. It isn’t a substitute for pancakes at all but I would recommend them for sure!

A big shout out to Jay & Aisha for their kind, delightful gesture! I feel so loved!

Poor Phil Connors has this Coffee Break hundreds of times in Groundhog Day. I wonder if he eventually hated the flavor of everything in the town? I suppose not but if the coffee tasted EXACTLY the same every day? I hope it was a good day for the coffee!
