    Okay, I think we have different definitions of what a masterpiece is. I don’t think a movie has to be perfect to be a masterpiece. (Let’s be honest… How many perfect films are there, really? You can poke holes in just about any movie if you really try.)

    I think of a masterpiece as a movie that riveted audiences and critics alike when it came out, had a huge impact on pop culture, and continues to do so years later. Yes it has a flaw or two, but nothing a Heath Ledger performance doesn’t make up for. Filmmakers have openly admitted to being influenced by TDK years after it was released and people still quote lines from it and dress up like the Joker. I mean just a few weeks ago a New Orleans fan dressed as Joker was caught on camera groping Jimmy Graham. I know that doesn’t help my argument in any way, I just wanted to bring it up because I thought it was a funny moment.

    Anyway, I think a masterpiece is a movie that sticks with audiences for years and I think Dark Knight falls in that category. One of my top ten movies of all time is Jurassic Park and I would argue that movie has many more flaws than The Dark Knight does. (Where the hell did that cliff in the T-Rex exhibit come from?) But let’s be honest, I’m really just completely misusing the term “masterpiece.”
