Bummed out that you couldn’t make it to this year’s Comic-Con? Don’t be! Live vicariously through Andy from Seven Inches of Your Time and check out all of his coverage of the convention including panels, previews, and more!
SDCC Preview Night: “Constantine” Pilot Review: Before even watching an episode, Constantine has a lot of baggage. He’s a wildly popular comic book character that has already been royally screwed up, by being made into a Keanu Reeves movie. Not many movies made after 2000 can boast surviving that curse. Also, most nuggets about the show’s content have been controversial/questionable. Many important facets of his character will be missing: Constantine won’t be seen smoking, he’s not bisexual like he is in the comics, and the main heroine in the pilot, Liv Aberdine (True Blood’s Lucy Griffiths), has already been written out of the show. Hokay now. (READ MORE)
SDCC Preview Night: “Flash” Pilot Review: It’s the 7th year of Warner Bros. and Comic-Con Preview Night. That means we get to see fall pilots months before they finally air, so we can talk shit or rave incessantly before most of y’all. This year’s lineup includes CW’s The Flash, NBC’s Constantine, Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans Go! and NOT CW’s iZombie, because of some casting changes. That certainly doesn’t bode well for the Rob Thomas show, but then again, they might be fixing the issue. (READ MORE)
SDCC Preview Night: “Teen Titans Go!” Away: My plan was to leave before watching Teen Titans Go!. But instead, they moved it to NOT LAST, knowing full well that everyone would sit through it, to get to Constantine. Afterwards, my reaction: WHAT DID I JUST WATCH?! (READ MORE)
SDCC Preview Night: Kevin Williamson’s “Stalker”: At SDCC’s Preview Night, instead of getting the pilot for iZombie, we got a nifty trailer for CBS’ Stalker. Yay? From the first look, it appears that Kevin Williamson has made another The Following, and this one looks better or one that doesn’t make me want to autocannibalize myself. (READ MORE)
SDCC: Legendary: Now it’s time for Legendary Pictures and less than thrilling analysis, because I’m just trying to catch up, and wrap my head around the insanity. The guide doesn’t reveal the slate, and with Godzilla, 300: Rise of An Empire in the rearview window…what does Legendary have upcoming? The internet has answers: Crimson Peak and Dracula Untold. Considering we already saw Benedict Cumberbatch and Luke Evans in Hall H, that seems like a safe bet. It’s probably way too early for Pacific Rim 2, but Guillermo be crazy. (READ MORE)
SDCC: Warner Bros. Panel: It’s Saturday. Hall H. I made it. Don’t want to talk about the ordeal. Chris Hardwick is moderating, as Marty McFly. Yeah, that’s a great omen. We startin’ with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Shiiit. We get a brief intro with some gritty concept art. Zack Snyder comes to the stage. Shooting now…have “teeny little thing” to show us. (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Arrow” Panel: It’s clear that after two seasons, that Arrow has secured serious fanboy cred, and is probably THE superhero/comic book TV show. Not only does it have a panel tonight (Friday), but it’s a part of the WB TV 3 hour sploosh fest tomorrow night at Hall H. I wonder how many push ups Stephen Amell will do for us. (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Reign” Panel: I’ve seen the pilot of Reign, so I think I was the biggest fan of the show in Ballroom 20. We got Adelaide Kane, Megan Follows, Toby Regbo and Laurie McCarthy (executive producer) for the panel. Over the course of the panel, I fell in love with Adelaide, who is like a British Aubrey Plaza, without being standoffish. (READ MORE)
SDCC: Marvel TV Panel: Plans don’t always go accordingly, but sometimes, it’s for the best. I succumbed to sleep and ended up avoiding massive lines in Hall H, and now find myself in Ballroom 20 for the Marvel TV panel. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter and maybe…Daredevil or Netflix stuff? I’m stoked. (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Under the Dome” Panel: Next up: CBS’ Under the Dome, a show that could’ve been a truly fantastic mini series, and instead is being turned into a frustrating, infuriating, dragged out, bloated Lost-y mind bender. Maybe Stephen King will show up (he won’t). Maybe Brian K. Vaughan can reveal that CBS is the reason the show only shows 1/millionth of his talent (he won’t). (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Hannibal” Panel: Why is anybody leaving the room right now? NBC’s Hannibal is part of the holy triumvirate of TV shows right now (Orphan Black and Game of Thrones complete the trifecta). (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Teen Wolf” Panel: It’s time for MTV’s Teen Wolf, which, judging by eavesdropping, has severely disturbed fans (they were discussing the seating order of the stars for this panel; WHY?!). I count myself as one of these fans, but it must be said that the fourth season has started out like insane/kitchen sink crap. I’m probably in the minority of that opinion, but I look forward to the panel nonetheless, because I don’t feel ugly enough watching these guys on TV. (READ MORE)
SDCC: “Community” Panel: Who or what is Yahoo! Screen and can we trust it? That is the question all human beings in Greendale and beyond are wondering right about now. Hopefully, this panel starts to answer that question, as we approach #sixseasonsandamovie and Community’s SDCC panel. I feel like when it was first bandied about, this was a farewell panel. Now it’s a comeback, and that story is about to be written. (READ MORE)
SDCC: “24: Live Another Day” Panel: First up is the first and last 24 panel. I haven’t watched the show since maybe season 3, and I’ve probably seen less than a full day in Jack Bauer’s life in total. That makes me the perfect person to regale you with dirty deets on the last season for the FOX show that apparently people other than my Aunt and Uncle still care about. There will be SPOILERS, but you should know that, fateful reader(s). (READ MORE)
SDCC: Marvel: Well, this is why we’re here. This is why I have permanent back damage and could sleep until next year’s Comic-Con at this point. What do we have in store for us? RDJ intro’d the panel two years ago. Hiddleston did last year. Is James Spader going to bring on some Ultron? Are we going to see the Vision? Are we going to see the complete Phase 3 cast (Inhumans, Black Panther, IM 4, Hulk, Thor 3, Cap 3?)? Is Benedict Cumberbatch or Joaquin Phoenix Dr. Strange or is it a mystery third person (I can grow that beard, bitches)? Josh Brolin is here. Do we get a taste of Thanos?! Can I possibly adore Elizabeth Olsen any more than I already do? Will a woman or a black character get their own movie? Will Bradley Cooper show up in a garish raccoon costume? Will we somehow fit the entire Guardians of the Galaxy movie into the time slot? Will I ejaculate all over my neighbors? Stay tuned. (READ MORE)
