If you had told me a month ago that Cary Fukunaga was trying to adapt Stephen King’s It I would have been all ‘Um alright, cool?” mainly because I wasn’t at all familiar with his other films. But now that I’m completely obsessed with True Detective, I could not be more excited to see where this project goes. [Stephen King’s ‘IT’ Could Be Next for ‘True Detective’ Director Cary Fukunaga]
I feel like I always hear news about Eli Roth but never see the end results. I’m glad he will be directing a few film soon including the cannibal film The Green Inferno and this latest movie that might be based off the 1977 film Death Game. [Eli Roth To Direct New Horror Movie ‘Knock Knock’]

Director: Ti West / Stars: Kate Lyn Sheil, Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz
I want to like Ti West. I thought House of the Devil was a refreshing throwback and he tends to run with a group of talented people, a few of whom are even in this latest effort. But nothing else that has had West’s directing name attached to it has impressed me in the slightest. The Sacrament is essentially looking at what it would have been like it if Vice covered the Jonestown massacre. The trailer is short on scares and I worry that both my somewhat detailed knowledge of the actual Jonestown case and dislike for the Vice journalists will work against me here.
Director: James DeMonaco / Stars: Cortney Palm, Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams
The first Purge installment successfully dulled any expectations I had for the intriguing premise presented. Even though the concept is full of holes, there was still a bit of societal horror ripe for expansion. That went nowhere and appears to be even less present in this second story. It’s turned into an excuse for crazy kill scenarios, kind of like the Saw sequels. Oh, well.
Director: Mac Carter / Stars: Jacki Weaver, Liana Liberato, Harrison Gilbertson
I watched a few borderline awful trailers right before this one so that may have been coloring my opinion but this looks like it could be above decent. The acting is solid, Jackie Weaver pops up mid way through and the look of the film feels nice. I would have been more excited for the movie overall if it didn’t give up that terrible throwaway scare at the end though. Ugh – it kind of pissed me off.
Director: Mike Flanagan / Stars: Karen Gillan, Katee Sackhoff, Rory Cochrane
Damn, Blumhouse sure is busy. Anyway, I like this teaser concept enough which appears to indicate some sort of supernatural mirror? Not sure, but I like spooky objects. Other than that, there isn’t a whole lot you can gleam from a plot standpoint. I can do without some of the dumb blood graphics which look phony and not in a good way. I mean…I don’t know. I guess oculus is a cool sounding word, right?
Director: Eugenio Mira / Stars: Elijah Wood, John Cusack, Kerry Bishé
I was thinking I might be writing this off rather quickly with the over the top storyline but the trailer started to grow on me as the tension ramped up. It looks nutty, but in a super cool retro way. What really struck me were the rich visuals and artistic flourishes on display. This could be a winner!
