Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of The Counselor, watch: Vanilla Sky
The new movie The Counselor certainly has a lot going for it, especially it’s incredible cast including Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Brad Pitt. If you need to stay at home this week, take a look at the a film also starring Penélope Cruz and Cameron Diaz, Vanilla Sky. The film follows a handsome playboy (Tom Cruise) that experiences intense issues after a car accident leaves him disfigured. Sky is a remake of a Spanish film Open Your Eyes, which is a film I enjoy slightly more but doesn’t necessarily indicate that Vanilla Sky can’t hold it’s own. Oddly enough Cruz is in both the films but Diaz’s inclusion in the remake is a welcome addition. Check it out if you want to see America’s sweetheart playing against type. Instead of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, watch: Jackass 3D
On paper, the idea of shooting another Jackass film entirely centering around Jonny Knoxville’s Grandpa character doesn’t sound super worthy. But the trailer for Bad Grandpa brought back memories of the very funny Borat and had me laughing my ass off. A decent substitution for this kind of movie would be the last in the Jackass film series, Jackass 3D. It is full of the kind of silly gags you would expect and felt like a fitting send off to the motley crew. [Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa trailer] / [Jackass 3D trailer]

The Way Way Back
One of my favorite films of the year hit stores last week. The small summer comedy written and directed by Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (The Descendants) is a warmly funny film that features fantastic performances and lovely coming of age moments. If it’s cold where you are this time of year, just watch The Way Way Back and it will make it feel like summer again. [Buy it on Amazon] / [The Way Way Back trailer]

Re-Animator (1985)
It’s Halloween week, and if you aren’t indulging in horror movie goodness then you need to check your priorities! Try hitting up the goofy b-movie masterpiece Re-Animator, a movie that expertly mixes dry humor, gory gags and shocking horror.

Re-Animator Netflix Synopsis: Based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft, this campy send-up follows a medical student who develops a serum that miraculously revives the dead. With his roommate and his girlfriend, he reanimates a corpse — but he doesn’t factor in certain complications.
