Enough Said (2013) Directed by Nicole Holofcener. Starring: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini, Catherine Keener. IMDB says: “A divorced woman who decides to pursue the man she’s interested in learns he’s her new friend’s ex-husband.”
Enough Said is a well written, well acted movie that has a rather wide appeal, but feels more geared towards a middle aged audience. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Eva, a divorced masseuse who has a few less than desirable clients. She goes to a party with her married friends (Toni Collette and Ben Falcone) where she meets a new client in Catherine Keener and a potential boyfriend in James Gandolfini.
The characters aren’t very stereotypical, adding a lot of refreshment to the movie. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is playing the similar neurotic role that she plays so well. James Gandolfini plays a really likeable guy who happens to have been married to the new client that Eva is working with. Even though she dishes on her ex-husband with Eva, it remains easy to like Gandolfini through the film. Toni Collette and Ben Falcone are fun to watch, as well. They have very playful dialogue between themselves that makes them great secondary characters.
There are some Michael Scott level awkward moments in later moments of the film. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays these scenes very well. She is able to make them more awkward without making you want to look away. The way the story develops is a nice mix of how you would expect it to play out, while still surprising you with the side stories.
Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for a light weight character driven story that contains likeable actors. I wouldn’t say that this movie is strictly for middle aged people, but this would be a good movie to watch with your parents or children.
