Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of The Big Wedding: My Big Fat Greek Wedding
I gotta be honest with you dear readers, I have no idea what The Big Wedding is about. Well, I’m sure a large wedding is involved, with zany antics and a cast of you know, some real quirky characters. But other than that speculation, nothing has invited me to find out more about the film or even watch a trailer. So going off assumption alone, I’m sure My Big Fat Greek Wedding involves some similar elements. I don’t know how MBFGW is perceived by others but I found it to be an enjoyable addition to the rom com genre. There are cliches peppered throughout the story of course, but enough jokes that land to make the movie watching experience a pleasant one.
Instead of Pain and Gain: BAD BOYS or BAD BOYS 2
“I’M HOT! I’M BIG!” Oh sorry, did you not know that I am beyond stoked to see Pain & Gain? I can’t wait to check out Michael Bay’s latest action comedy but in the interim I suggest revisiting the fantastic Bad Boys series. Again, I am a big fan of the two movies with their over the top action and laugh out loud comedic moments. This pick is easy peasy so if you haven’t seen Bad Boys for whatever reason, make sure you pick it up and grab some popcorn.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Another easy pick for me because it was one of my favorite films from 2012. I had nothing but overwhelming praise for Silver Linings in my review of the film which you can read here.
Headhunters (2011)
This Norwegian action thriller follows a secret art thief that gets into a major bind when one of his targets turns out to be a ruthless headhunter. The film received a lot of positive buzz and rightfully so. It’s a taut, suspense driven story that manages it’s brutal action and human elements quite well, while also adding in just the right amount of dark humor. The film should offer up a fun and satisfying at home movie watching experience.
Headhunters Netflix Synopsis: Living way beyond his means, corporate recruiter Roger Brown steals rare artwork to maintain his lavish lifestyle. But when he plans to boost an especially valuable painting, he targets a man who has headhunting skills of a different variety.
What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
