Remember that true story a while back about Gilberto Valle? That name doesn’t ring a bell? Oh, well he’s just that NYPD ‘Cannibal Cop’ that got in trouble for planning to kidnap and cook his girlfriend as well as possibly 100 others. Well now a movie is in the works. Read the info about the new film loosely based on NYPD’s Cannibal Cop.

Netflix is trying to gain subscribers by distributing some original content next year includING new episodes of Arrested Development and the new David Fincher/Kevin Spacey project House of Cards. One of my favorite horror films of the last decade was the James Wan film Insidious. Recently, FilmDistrict, Alliance Films and Sony Pictures put out a press release explain the directors plans for a sequel. Read the new info about Insidious 2 including who will return from the previous installment.

WORLD WAR Z
Directed by Marc Forster. Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and David Morse.

I’ve been away from The Gore Report for a little while but I did manage to catch this mess. I know it’s probably been discussed in depth already so I’ll be quick. I agree with the rest of the internet: The zombies look horrendous, it has nothing to do with the book and I am obviously concerned about all the issues with production. It’s a shame though really, this could have been something great. My only wish is that they would distance themselves from the book now that it’s so far off base. Change the title to Liquid Zombies or something.

THE ABC’S OF DEATH
Directed by A Bunch of Directors! Starring: A Bunch of Actors!.

Yay, anthologies! You know you’re going to get a mixed bag because there so much variation in taste, but who cares? I’m there for the ride and debating/ranking the segments is half the fun. At the very least, this seems like something every horror fan should give a chance. While the trailer doesn’t tell us too much, it does set the tone for an over the top, blood soaked, batshit crazy assault on the senses. Looks like movie night material to me.

CITADEL
Directed by X. Starring: XXX.

Color me impressed. Maybe the pull quotes helped a lot but my eyes were glued to the screen with this one. The premise doesn’t seem ‘original’ in the purest sense but there seems to be enough questionable elements that this doesn’t seem old-hat. The trailer is giving me this weird vibe that crosses David Cronenberg’s The Brood with something similar to the French film Ils (Them.) I like it.

DARK SKIES
Directed by Scott Charles Stewart. Starring: Keri Russell, Dakota Goyo and J.K. Simmons.

This is one of the best horror trailers I have seen in a while. I will say I think it gives a little too much away but I love the old school feeling permeating through from the film. It’s rare that I’m interested in an alien invasion/abduction type story but I’m sold here and largely thanks to the scares produced in the trailer. Writer/director Scott Charles Stewart doesn’t have a great track record ( Priest, Legion….actually I kind of liked Legion) but here’s hoping that Dark Skies marks a turning point.

SILENT NIGHT
Directed by Steven C. Miller. Starring: Jaime King, Malcolm McDowell and Brendan Fehr.

I haven’t seen Silent Night, Deadly Night… is that bad? I don’t know, I know it’s a cult film but I’m not sure how imperative it is to my horror catalog, so let me know in the comments if you have an opinion on that. Anyway, without much to compare it to I am getting a bit of a My Bloody Valentine 3D thing from the trailer, which I would be fine with because I quite liked that remake, but this story seems to be heavily lacking in scares. I mean, the concept is great and I’m all for terrorizing the little ones but nothing connected those fears with me in the trailer. I’m sure I’ll see this one way or another, but I won’t be seeking it out too persistently.
