Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of Lincoln : Schindler’s List
Lincoln is Steven Spielberg’s latest film. It tells a very detailed story of Abraham Lincoln’s time as President of the United States dealing with the Civil War and the issue of slavery. The deal for Lincoln was finalized in 2001 and Spielberg has been working on this film every since, trying to make the film has close to perfect has possible. Schindler’s List came out in 1993, when Spielberg wasn’t confident that his chops would support directing a movie about the Holocaust. He did end up directing it and gained very positive reviews from doing so. Watch Schindler’s List to experience an early Spielberg masterpiece.
Instead of Skyfall: Casino Royale
Especially if you’ve never seen it, Casino Royale will give you a good idea of how the new Bond films operate. Casino Royale is Daniel Craig’s first film as James Bond and is more action oriented than previous Bond films with a more up-to-date energy. If you aren’t familiar with the new James Bond franchise or you’re not able to make it out to the theaters for Skyfall, Casino Royale will offer you a great movie night at home.
Savages (2012)
Based off of the book by Don Winslow, Savages stars Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch has small time drug lords caught up in an encroaching drug war. When they refuse to become goons for the boss of the new game in town, their shared girlfriend (played by Blake Lively) is kidnapped. They agree to work for the new boss, while also trying to figure out a way to save their third member.
The Innkeepers (2011)
More of a ghost story than a straight-up horror movie, The Innkeepers is a film by Ti West about innkeepers at a soon-to-be-closed hotel. Sara Paxton and Pat Healy play two employees of a rundown hotel that is open for its last weekend. While they take turns doing 12 hour shifts, they occupy their time by investigating paranormal activity that the hotel is fabled to have. The few guests the hotel has are a bunch of weirdos and things start to get a little real as strange things are happening in the basement.
The Innkeepers Netflix Synopsis: In this eerie ghost story, a venerable New England inn closes after a century in business, and the lodge’s two remaining employees are determined to uncover the truth about longtime rumors that the majestic mansion is haunted.
