Fun fact: Back in the day I was super into Urban Legends. Not just the movie (which is terrible and great at the same time) but actual UL stories – I think they’re fascinating. So I was tickled pink to hear that a new anthology series was in development that focused on just such stories.

I know you’ve been waiting for it since 2004, but you don’t have to wait any longer. The 5th installment in the Chucky series has been announced. I feel the series as a whole is a bit hit or miss but I will certainly keep an open mind about the new installment. Does that make me a really sad human being?

Rob Reiner is known to work on films of varying genres but he hasn’t made much of an impact on the horror scene since his shiver-inducing film Misery came out in 1990. But Rob now has plans to look into thrillers once again.

Sinister
Directed by Scott Derrickson. Starring: Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance and James Ransone.
What is up, genuine creepfest! This looks like it has some potential to bring a few chills to the theater. I have a soft spot for Ethan Hawke and I like that the trailer shows off the bit of mystery the story has to offer. Sinister is set to release in the US October 5, 2012. You can watch the trailer below:
Exit Humanity
Directed by: John Geddes. Starring: Brian Cox, Mark Gibson and Dee Wallace.
Much like their subject matter, zombie movies just won’t die. I’ll give Exit Humanity a point for trying something different with the genre by making this story set during the Civil War, but some of the dramatic tension displayed doesn’t fully connect. If I see this, it will be for the lovely makeup effects, not the acting. The film is currently being set with a 2012 U.S. release date. You can watch the trailer below.
7500
Directed by: Takashi Shimizu. Starring: Leslie Bibb, Ryan Kwanten and Amy Smart.
Supernatural Plane Horror, well alright then! Tons of people are scared of flying and this movie seems to seek out to exploit that. Nothing wrong with that. This trailer’s problem is the lack of everything, including plot and scares. I’m not too quick to write this one off but I will be hoping to see more than just setup when the movie arrives. 7500 is scheduled for release sometime in 2013 – See the trailer below.
The Apparition
Directed by: Todd Lincoln. Starring: Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton.
Even though I am a strong advocate for watching Ghost Hunters with the intention of mocking it, I have still managed to learn a few things while poking fun, and I can definitely tell you that the paranormal enthusiasts are never that hot. But seriously, this movie seems pretty bland and when the plot of your movie is that scary ghosts only exist if you believe in them, well then it looks like my cyncal ass won’t be haunted anytime soon. No scares for you! The movie is set to hit theaters August 24, 2012, check out the trailer below.
The Loved Ones
Directed by: Sean Byrne. Starring: Xavier Samuel, Robin McLeavy, Jessica McNamee, Richard Wilson, Victoria Thaine.
This movie looks like a sick little gem! Running with the idea of a psycho teen that kidnaps the boy who turned her down for prom, the trailer gets more demented with each passing second. I want to see this one because of the performances and to find out how the twisted tale culminates. The movie has already been released with a limited run inside and outside of the U.S. See the trailer below.

Bonjour Tristesse may not have a blog title I can properly pronounce, but it does contain a wealth of fantastic reviews. ‘Foreign, indie and cult’ is the name of the game and I chose to spotlight a review about an intriguing foreign film. The Prototype
Directed by: Andrew Will. Written by: Andrew Will. Starring: Neal McDonough, Joseph Mawle and Anna Anissimova.
Ok, so this isn’t exactly a short but I thought it would be appropriate to include it here. What it is though is a teaser trailer if you will for a movie that hasn’t been made. The guys behind Act of Valor are responsible here for this interesting look at this sci-fi action mash-up. I see a ton of potential here and will be closely following the project’s path.
Send it over to lindsay@frenchtoastsunday.com and I’ll be sure to get to it!
