What We Thought:
Jess: This movie has a really great knack for building up tension as the story line plays out. You never really know exactly where it is going which makes it all the more enjoyable. Ben Affleck definitely shines as a director and doesn’t give a terrible acting performance either. Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, and Rebecca Hall round out the supporting cast with excellent performances. This deserves a high spot up on the list of Boston crime dramas. It features some really cool car chases, robberies, and shoot outs that are fun to watch and well directed. The ending is very satisfying which really put this movie up there as one of my top 10 movies so far this year.
Lindsay: Really fantastic directorial effort here from Ben Affleck. The Town is exciting and well thought out. I was really drawn into each character’s story. I felt for the character’s struggles to balance what they thought was right and what they thought they had to do. All the events that took place made sense and served the plot perfectly. Cohesive and engaging, kudos to Affleck’s vision and his partnership in writing the screenplay as well. I would recommend everyone go out an see The Town. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Nick: The Town is without a doubt a solid movie. You can’t find any real flaws. The film doesn’t lull. There is nothing bad that can be said about this film. Ben Affleck does another great job and you can tell he’s already found his style of directing. With beautiful cinematography and sprawling shots of the city, not only can you see the love Affleck has for his hometown, but its like he’s introducing you to another character all together; Boston. This time around, instead of kidnappers, we focus in on bank robbers. It’s a heist film, pure and simple. It may seem cliché to the average viewer, but Affleck breathes such fresh air into the film, nothing feels tired or old. It feels almost like a completely new concept. And of course with every heist film comes tension. It comes in waves throughout the movie, but it adds levels of excitement that keep you interested from start to finish. Definitely see this one in theaters.
