Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of The Apparition: Any Other Horror Film Where Demons Possess A House

Seriously, take your pick on Netflix of any of the horror titles available. There are plenty that take place in a house where the demons feed on the fears of a young group/couple/hot blonde/whatever. BUT, at home, the chills, thrills, bumps, and jumps will be all the more terrifying because it’s at your house. (do NOT look over your shoulder right now).

Instead of Hit & Run : Smokey & The Bandit

Actor/Writer Dax Shepard looked to Smokey & The Bandit (a favorite film of his) as inspiration for his newest film (which he wrote, stars, performs stunts, and directs) Hit & Run. Both are action crammed chase films with laughter spread throughout. While most of us really want to see Bradley Cooper in dreads and yellow tinted sunglasses, there is a certain appeal to Burt Reynolds and that sweet sweet mustache. And if you’re unsure of what will happen in Hit & Run, watching Smokey might give you a better idea of what is in store.

Instead of Premium Rush: Children of Men

I know what you’re thinking. Nick, what in the world does Children of Men and Premium Rush have in common? Why would I watch one over the other? I’ll tell you. Premium Rush is about a bike messenger who receives a mystery package, when confronted, he refuses to give it up and drives off. He then is chased through the streets of Manhattan. Children of Men is about a guy who gets talked into protecting this mysterious girl. He has no idea why but he is pursued throughout the film as he protects her at all costs. Overall there are similarities, but if you’re looking for tension, twists, and chases, look no further than Alfonso Cuaron’s Children of Men.

Battleship (2012)

Look. I know what you’re thinking. But this movie wasn’t that bad. Yeah it’s mindless at times, but as a whole, it’s fun, exciting, and it’s going to look great and sound great on your home theatre system. If you didn’t see it in theatres it’s at least worth the rental. If you need a refresher on the film, you can find myself and Will’s reviews here.

Snatch (2011)
One of Guy Ritchie’s best films, this caper gone awry twists and turns through different tales that all have something in common. Add in a solid cast (including Benicio Del Toro, Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, & Stephen Graham) and a script that is filled with nothing but quotable material, and you’ve got a classic you can enjoy over and over again. It’s one of my favorites and I’m glad to see it on Instant.

Snatch Netflix Synopsis: While transporting a pinched 84-karat sparkler to his stateside boss, a gangster stops off in London and inadvertently triggers a slew of fateful events that wends through the worlds of bookies, pawnshops, bare-knuckle boxing and swine.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
