Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit a home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of Chimpanzee: Congo
Chimpanzee is Disney’s latest installment in full feature animal documentaries. I personally see a problem in making people pay the price of a movie ticket to see something they can catch on Animal Planet. So instead of seeing Chimpanzee, you should watch Congo. Both movies take place in Africa, both have primates in principles roles, but only one will actually be worth seeing.
Instead of The Lucky One: The Notebook
Ahh, Nicholas Sparks, you’ve done it again. You have made a movie that thousands of prepubescent girls and love-starved women will run to in droves to see. If you count yourself in either one of those categories and you can’t make it to the theater, grab a comfy seat on your couch in pop in The Notebook (you know you have a copy) and watch a movie with a slightly more plausible plot. Plus, Ryan Gosling is wayyy hotter than Zac Efron.
Instead of Think Like a Man: Deliver Us From Eva
The premise of Think Like a Man is that four friends are upset with their respective ladies for using Steve Harvey’s book; Think Like A Man, But Act Like A Lady, against them. Cute. So if you can’t make it to the theater to see this one, stay home and watch Deliver Us From Eva, an urban reimaging of Shakespeare’s Taming the Shrew. Deliver Us stars Gabrielle Union (who is also in Think Like A Man) as the strong-willed and domineering Eva, the eldest of her sisters. Eva terrorizes her sister’s men to the point that they pay LL Cool J to take her out on a date and take her off their backs.
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Tom Cruise may be a fry short of a Happy Meal in real life, but damn he’s great in the MI films. This go around, Ethan Hunt and his IMF team has been set up by an unknown bad guy and disavowed by the government. It’s Ethan’s job to find out who’s behind the set up and save the world.
Edward Scissorhands
Remember when Tim Burton made good movies? We miss those days. So if you’re trolling around Netflix definitely give this modern classic a re-watch and allow yourself to drift back to a time where Burton’s weirdness was novel and purposeful.
Edward Scissorhands Netflix Synopsis: An inventor dies before developing hands for his creation, a boy named Edward who instead has scissors at the end of each arm. Edward lives a monastic existence until an Avon lady adopts him and takes him to live in the pastel paradise of suburbia.
What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
