The summer movie lineup is coming up just around the corner, so I decided to take a look at what comedies are in store for the next few months. Watch the trailers and tell me what you think.
Bad Teacher
Release Date: June 24, 2011
I am actually really impressed with this trailer. This is the first time in a long while that I have actually felt Cameron Diaz was properly cast for her role. Hearing things like “fuck my ass” and “I wanna sit on his face” coming out from Diaz’ mouth is kind of perfect. She’s breaking away a little from those “no really, I’m still young and hot” roles that she keeps trying to pull off. In addition, you can’t really go wrong with Jason Segal and the dynamic between once real life couple, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz should be fun to comment on. Also, this red band trailer is the only one you need to see. The film looks raunchy and hilarious and the ‘approved for all audiences’ trailer shatters that blissful picture.
Horrible Bosses
Release Date: July 8, 2011
Well let’s get the obvious out of the way: Charlie Day, fuck yeah. Anyone that is a fan of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows that Charlie Day is the 8th Wonder of the Comedic World and is so far being criminally underused by Hollywood. And with him honestly comes another comedy I am on board with this summer. The cast is really fun, featuring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudekis, Jen Aniston, Kevin Spacey and a surprisingly hilarious Colin Ferrel. The premise is pretty silly but it should be a fun 90 minute fantasy for all of us that have had those awful bosses at on point or another.
Friends With Benefits
Release Date: July 22, 2011
Hmm, seems familiarright? Well I like the talent involved in the film but a few of the jokes seem to miss, notably the scared of heights helicopter bit. I’m also a little over the whole, its the 2010’s or whatever, ipads and shit decade where we can try out this unconventional relationship angle. But otherwise I’m not judging this too harshly, I may give it a go.
Crazy, Stupid Love
Release Date: July 29, 2011
I have heard fantastic things about this movie’s script. A lot of this movie seems been there done that but there seems to be a real heart in this trailer. Possibly the biggest draw to this films seems to be the inclusion of Ryan Gosling, a fantastic talent that generally chooses intriguing roles. I am looking forward to seeing how this movie comes together and where the characters end up.
The Change-Up
Release Date: August 5, 2011
As much as I like WHO I’m seeing on screen, I don’t love WHAT I’m seeing. I don’t find much of anything to make me feel that this grass is greener concept is worth a second look. Also, wishing something into existence via a magic fountain? Seriously? What is this When In Rome?
30 Minutes or Less
Release Date: August 12, 2011
Now this is what I’m talking about. Danny McBride means I’m already buying a ticket, but a Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland) directed flick also starring Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson? I think I’m in love. Fleischer has said that this film has a lot of really strong influence from classic action films to go along with the comedy and that really has me intrigued. The only thing that pseudo-disappoints me is the fact that the true story this is loosely based on would actually make for an unbelievable drama.
