Unbreakable (2000)
Apparently the trick for M. Night Shyamalan is to work with Bruce Willis because, of all of his movies, well the two he did with Willis, are his best. Unbreakable had the signature Shyamalan plot twist, but used it in a way that didn’t seem forced. It made the story feel more organic and helped make the film fun to watch. Not to be out done, Samuel L. Jackson also does a great job with his role as antagonist opposite of Willis. If you liked The Sixth Sense and thought that the newer Shyamalan movies were bunk, give Unbreakable a shot.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)
Hellboy II is a much finer film than the original Hellboy. This can be accredited to the addition of Guillermo del Toro as director. The storybook visuals that del Toro brought to Pan’s Labyrinth are also applied to this Hellboy sequel. The sequel is a more mature film with better character development and a more engaging plot. I’d say if you haven’t seen either Hellboy, start with The Golden Army and work backwards if you enjoy it.

Watchmen (2009)
Watchmen is definitely one movie that I wish I would have read the book before I had seen the film. This movie introduced me to a story that a cult audience had seemed to hold very closely for a number of years. It’s often hard to translate that well-loved of a property, so perhaps it was better that I wasn’t aware of the source material before viewing the film. This allowed me to enjoy the film for what it was, without even realizing they changed the ending until after I had finished the movie.

The Losers
The Losers (2010)
The Losers is easily one of the top 3 movies I wished they would make a sequel for. Sort of like a modern day A-Team, The Losers is a group of black-operatives that go against orders and end up stranded in Bolivia by their commanding officer, Max. They try to get their good name back and get back their citizenship by foiling the corrupt Max’s plan to purchase and use some super powerful, eco-friendly weapons. The film is a solid action flick with likeable characters and a lot of personality. It’s a movie that is easy to watch over and over again.

Sin City (2005)
Sin City is a great movie. Not only is it good as a stand-alone film, it also does a perfect job of blending in the art of the comic to create a visually stunning movie. Sin City is a pretty dark film with some heavier elements that really help add a lot to the overall feel of the film. At least three of the characters in the movie are some of my favorites of all time. With a plethora of well-developed characters and plot lines, and a number of quotable lines, the components mix together to make Sin City a very memorable movie.
