trailers

STRANDED

Directed by Roger Christian. Starring: Christian Slater, Brendan Fehr, Amy Matysio.

What feels like a blend of Prometheus and Pandorumn, the trailer has a fine foundation but doesn’t offer anything fresh. There isn’t anything terrible or offensive about it but the trailer does seem to give away a few important moments. I won’t label this a ‘pass’ but I won’t be going out of my way for it either.

SANITARIUM

(anthology)

I feel like I’ve been talking about anthologies for every Gore Report but I don’t mind. Sanitaruim seems to take on a much more grounded subject matter than most other anthologies, focusing on three separate mental patients committed to a sanitarium. I appreciate the slow narration of this red band trailer that saves the music and action until it’s latter half. That build up leads to a lot of clips with out context and going into a horror film not knowing what to expect is half the battle.

CRAWL

Directed by Paul China. Starring: Georgina Haig, George Shevtsov, Catherine Miller.

Here’s something unexpected. The film looks nice and polished but it’s the critics slug lines mentioning “suspense” and all those Coen Brothers references that has me on the edge for this trailer. The trailer tips to a lot of craziness but seems to steer clear of actually spoiling anything. Thumbs up.

BYZANTIUM

Directed by Neil Jordan. Starring: Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Jonny Lee Miller.

Well, I’d like to see this. Mainly because Saoirse Ronan is in it and she is beyond talented but also because it looks like it has the makings for an engaging vampire drama. I’m not anticipating this movie as much as Stoker (which looks much darker) but will certainly be looking forward to it.

LORDS OF SALEM

Directed by Rob Zombie. Starring: Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davison, Jeff Daniel Phillips.

The first teaser for this was atmospheric and intruiging but this full trailer is less so. There is still enough about this flick that guarentees my viewing (Rob Zombie, the dreamlike visuals) but the plot and performaces shown are starting to open things up in a less flattering light. I won’t expect the world, but hopefully everything will be able to come together in the final product.
