The Best on DVD & BluRay

Straight Outta Compton

Who’s in it?
O’shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Aldis Hodge, Paul Giamatti

What’s it about?
“In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.” – Universal Pictures

Nate’s Two Cents?
This was one of the more enjoyable movies I got to see this past summer. A look into the lives of the members of N.W.A., the movie portrays the rise and fall of the notorious rap group. Overall a fun watch bringing back a lot of late 80’s and early 90’s hip-hop nostalgia. Watching the young cast portray these rap gods is an energetic blast. The film does get slow for a hot minute but overall moves pretty quickly. If you’re a fan you will surely enjoy picking this one up this coming week!

Netflix Instant Pick

Everly

Who’s in it?
Salma Hayek, Laura Cepeda, Jennifer Blanc, Togo Igawa, Gabriella Wright, Hiroyuki Watanabe

What’s it about?
“An action/thriller centered on a woman who faces down assassins sent by her ex, a mob boss, while holed up in her apartment.” – Rotten Tomatoes

Nate’s Two Cents?
I am very much a fan of director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Holliston, Chillerama) so this week I’m recommending his newest flick which just got added to Netflix last week. If you’re looking for an action flick that screams “die hard in a room”….then this flick is for you. Salma Hayek is badass in this movie as the main protagonist who is fighting for her life and also the life of her small daughter. The movie is filled with amazing action sequences and some gory deaths to perfectly round out the flick as expected. Definitely check this flick out this week.
