Joshua Connor (Russell Crowe) and Orhan (Dylan Georgiades) THE WATER DIVINER

The Water Diviner

Rotten Tomatoes: 63% | IMDB: 7.2

“Russell Crowe’s directorial debut, “The Water Diviner,” is an epic and inspiring tale of one man’s life-changing journey of discovery. Crowe plays Australian farmer Joshua Connor, who, in 1919, goes in search of his three missing sons, last known to have fought against the Turks in the bloody Battle of Gallipoli. Arriving in Istanbul, he is thrust into a vastly different world, where he encounters others who have suffered their own losses in the conflict: Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko), a strikingly beautiful but guarded hotelier raising a child alone; her young, spirited son, Orhan (Dylan Georgiades), who finds a friend in Connor; and Major Hasan (Yilmaz Erdoğan), a Turkish officer who fought against Connor’s boys and who may be this father’s only hope. With seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his path, Connor must travel across the battle-scarred Turkish landscape to find the truth…and his own peace.” – Warner Bros.

Maika Monroe in The Guest

The Guest (2014)

Rotten Tomatoes: 90% | IMDB: 6.7

Who’s in it?
Dan Stevens, Maika Monroe, Leland Orser, Lance Reddick, Brendan Meyer

What’s this thing about?
“From the director of YOU’RE NEXT and featuring a standout, badass performance from Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey”), comes THE GUEST: a tense, action-packed and unpredictable film like everything and nothing you’ve ever seen before. Empire Magazine called it “a demented action-horror hybrid of sci-fi conspiracy thriller and gore-fest”, and Vanity Fair said, “THE GUEST is big, it’s bold, it’s badass, full of flavor Hollywood wishes it could pour over its vanilla blockbusters.” – Picturehouse

Nate’s Two Cents?
As we all await the last few days of the month until Wet Hot American Summer comes out, why not give The Guest a try in the meantime. For any of you Downton Abbey fans out there, be prepared to see Dan Stevens in a whole new light. Stevens is the perfect badass and his intentions seem noble at first glance, but as time goes on things begin to spiral out of control. The film also stars the lovely Maika Monroe (It Follows) who is brilliant as always and gives another fantastic performance. The Guest is just a downright fun film to watch and will leave you saying WTF!!
