Remember: Coffee Break is full of odds and ends I’d like to discuss including films I’m watching, links I like, stuff I’m into and oh yeah, coffee!
Damn, it has been quite a while since I’ve had a Coffee Break over here on FTS. I have a lot of photos to share with you guys but first let’s take a look at my mug from a few days ago.
This isn’t a very exciting photo but it accurately describes my blogging life over the past few weeks. To-do lists a mile long and lots of coffee. But today is my birthday and I am looking forward to kicking back a little. Tonight, I leave for Austin, TX to celebrate and I can’t wait!! Photos to come.
I have been really slacking with my film watching habits so far this year. Besides the lack of interesting new releases in theaters, I’ve been throwing a lot of my effort into FTS and site related endeavors. I love if but I needed a reminder of the power of film.
The site is starting to focus on different directors each month so you can imagine my excitement that our first director profiled was my man, David Fincher. The whole crew recently got together for a viewing of one his most impressive but often overlooked films: Zodiac.
The movie is a cinematic feat for many reasons. It’s a near three hour true crime story that follows a case that most viewers already know will never be solved, but the pacing is so incredible and the case is at it’s core very intriguing. Fincher’s approach to discussing the story is to look at what it may have been like for someone at the time of the murders and media hoopla. There’s crime reporter Paul Avery (Robert Downy Jr.), police detective Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and our main character Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) – a very curious political cartoonist. The movie is based off the real Graysmith’s book and takes aim at a man on a mission. Each man, in their own way, becomes too involved in the case and uncovering the truth. The deeper they dig, the more clues they uncover, the more they loose in their lives.
The movie is a read beauty to look at. Fincher uses both the camera and visual FX shots to create a gorgeous vision of San Francisco in the 70’s. I plan on writing an additional post about the movie that goes into more detail about Zodiac‘s production design so keep an eye out for that.
Other pluses include all around impressive performances, scenes of severe tension and moments of surprising humor.
Since my “Current Obsessions” basically all revolve around Finchuary and I have more photos to share than usual, I’ll just skip right to it. Take a look at a little of what I’ve been up to since I last checked in.
There’s a shot of some of the group at the 2013 Mobbies Awards. It was held at a local art center that had a lot of real serious “art” happening. Like there was one installation where their was a net on the ground and a video of a naked woman swimming on the wall. You know, art.
There we are again, this time I’m included. We didn’t win anything, btw. Which is silly because we were the coolest people there. Their loss, not ours.
Switching it up to 2014, here’s a few FTSers and friends on a very chilly day in Atlantic City.
It was Jason’s birthday & we were ready to gamble!
Will is an expert photographer…
COFFEE! We stayed at The Chelsea Hotel which has really adorable, retro accomadations and is also attached to an awesome diner called Teplitzky’s.
We were attempting to do this.
Some of the FTS gang! If you were wondering why you were immediately drawn to Rob’s beauty, I think it might have something to do with that devilishly handsome shirt he’s wearing.
The diner is quite charming but the food…
…is definitely where it’s at. Yum.
I chose this shot from Fight Club for my mug shot this time because (besides the obvious reason) I recently found out that David Fincher went on record saying that every scene in the movie features a cup of coffee. Apparently, not all of the cups have been spotted yet but I think I just found my new hobby.
Also, can someone buy me this robe for my Birthday? Thanks!
