As a beer lover, I often find myself selecting out a brew to fit my mood. And as a movie lover, most of the time the two go hand in hand. So I decided to share some pairings of film and beer that I think go great together. Take a look at my pick of the month and hopefully you will enjoy it.
Winter Storm is Heavy Seas’ winter seasonal. It’s an Imperial ESB, which means it’s heavy on the malts, but does not shy away from the hops. The beer is considered a ‘winter warmer’. Its heavy malt bill allows it to reach 7.5% ABV and gives it a reddish brown hue. The style is based on an English style and uses English malt and hops as well as the American hops for balance. It’s one of Heavy Seas highest rated beers.
The Day After Tomorrow stars Dennis Quaid as Jack Hall, a paleoclimatologist working in Antarctica, and Jake Gyllenhaal as his son, Sam Hall, in New York to participate in a decathlon. Jack finds that the ice in Antarctica is cracking when it should be too cold to do so. He discovers that global warming is causing a stark climate change in the ice caps. Eventually, glaciers begin to melt and strand Sam in a library in New York City. He is put into a survival situation as the world begins to enter a new ice age.
Winter is here and it’s beginning to feel like the poster of The Day After Tomorrow outside, so the best thing to do is stay inside and enjoy apocalyptic cold weather from the comfort of your living room. To help you stay warm, drink a few Winter Storms. With its high alcohol content and heavy base malts it will help fight any lingering cold effects you may have experienced from going outside that day.
