Here to take a look at the films coming out in wide and limited release this coming weekend. I’ll give you my thoughts to help you decide what’s worth checking out.
- Don Jon – One of the hilarious movies I’ve seen this year. I will have a review up Friday, but long story short, just go see it. Unless you have an aversion to seeing a lot of porn on screen (which I’m sure most of you pervs will love).
- Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 – This looks perfectly cute and bright and funny enough for adults but also with a huge appeal for kids. The first one is one of the few kids movies I’ve seen recently that actually seemed worth checking out, so I will be sure to see it at some point.
- Baggage Claim – In this movie, Paula Patton plays a flight attendant who decides to somehow get onto flights with her exes to find out if she can rekindle the flame (or something?). It looks kind of stupid but probably fairly inoffensive, and manages to put a large group of attractive men in a movie so I’m not mad it exists. At the same time, I will likely never see it. It’s one of those dopey rom coms that I would actually hate if it starred Katherine Heigl.
- Rush – This Ron Howard film depicts the story of a real life rivalry between two race car drivers in the 70’s. It looks super serious and Chris Hemsworth bid to be taken seriously. It looks like it could be interesting and maybe a bit thrilling, but I’m not usually one for racecars (save for Talladega Night, obviously) and it might just be a little too dry. The early response from critics has been fairly strong though so it seems worth the watch just to see if it deserves the attention it’s garnered.
- Morning – This small indie about a couple dealing with the tragic loss of their young son came out in 2010 to a fair amount of positive response, but it’s just now being released. I suppose it was a matter of distribution but that delay always fires off some warning signals. It looks kind of sweet but mostly really depressing. I never did see Rabbit Hole just because the subject matter seems too bleak to encourage me to put it on, but this could be great if you’re in the mood for a tearjerker.
