Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of Evil Dead: Cabin Fever
While this remake looks pretty sick, there’s plenty of other horror movies built on the good ole cabin model. Of course The Cabin in the Woods would have been an easy alternative, but I really dug Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever since a decade before that came out. The cabin is creepy, the locals are questionable, and the gore is nasty as hell. If you’re going to skip this latest horror flick in theaters, then this should get you by. Besides, it has potentially the most amusing pancake reference in any movie.
Instead of Trance: Inception
I don’t really get why anyone wouldn’t want to go check out Trance but if you want an alternative also dealing with criminals getting into the heads of someone else for monetary gain, then the recent favorite Inception is an easy substitute. Both look visually intense, have psychological themes, and blur the line between reality and the subconscious. Plus you know Inception is one of those movies you can watch over and over and catch new aspects.
John Dies At The End (2012)
I haven’t seen this dark horror comedy yet but the trailer looks like a surreal, weird ass trip that could potentially be awesome. It’s about two college students who, of course, have to save the world after crossing into alternate dimensions after taking a street drug called Soy Sauce. The reviews that came in were kind of mixed but it might be more up the alley of a horror movie lover, which I’m counting on.
The Evil Dead (1981)
Sure this would have been the easy alternative for the remake, but I decided to switch it up a little bit because lucky for everyone, this cult classic is available on Instant Watch. While people seem to equate this to its sequel’s more genuinely campy feel, the original is often scarier than funny and features amazing practical effects. Plus, it’s the origin story for the badass Ash, a character not to be unfamiliar with.
The Evil Dead Netflix Synopsis: During an unplanned stop at a remote cabin deep within the woods, a group of teens falls prey to a mysterious supernatural force. As his pals become possessed and turn into flesh-eating zombies, Ash Williams tries to keep his cool and save his skin.
What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
