As a beer lover, I often find myself selecting out a brew to fit my mood. And as a movie lover, most of the time the two go hand in hand. So I decided to share some pairings of film and beer that I think go great together. Take a look at my pick of the month and hopefully you will enjoy it.

Heavy Seas The Great’er Pumpkin

The Great’er Pumpkin is a spiced pumpkin ale brewed with the common pumpkin beer spices of Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, and Allspice. The beer is released as The Great Pumpkin when fresh. Additionally, Heavy Seas takes a portion of the beer and ages it for 3 months in bourbon barrels. This creates the Great’er Pumpkin. The barrel aging helps mellow out some of the potency of the spices and gives the beer a better overall depth.

Home Alone

Home Alone is one of my favorite John Hughes movies. Even though he did not direct Home Alone, he both wrote and produced the film. I have the same nostalgic feelings toward this movie as others have towards The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles. Home Alone stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, a young boy who is left home alone by his parents when they are in a rush to leave for a Christmas vacation. Meanwhile, a couple of small time crooks have been casing the joint and intend to rob the McCallister house because they assume the house is empty. The movie is a great family film that is funny and a touch heart warming.

Home Alone is a Christmas movie and always reminds me of the holiday season. I’ve always felt the night of Thanksgiving was the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season. The Great’er Pumpkin is a nice way to bid farewell to fall and the year’s pumpkin harvest and a warm greeting to the cold weather with its warmth from aging in whiskey barrels. It is 9% alcohol by volume and should share well being that it comes in 22oz bottles. You can enjoy the beer while watching Home Alone with family and friends after a big meal.
