Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.
Instead of Anna Karenina: A Dangerous Method
Anna Karenina is a film adaptation of the classic Leo Tolstoy novel. It stars Keira Knightley as the title character, an aristocrat in 19th century Russia. The story deals with some issues of hypocrisy and jealousy. A Dangerous Method also stars Keira Knightley as Sabina Speilrein, a patient of Carl Jung who was Sigmund Freud’s protege. The film also deals with similarly heavy issues, albeit in a less dramatic style. A Dangerous Method also contains some very over the top chin acting performed by Knightley.
Instead of Breaking Dawn Part 2: Underworld
Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the final chapter of the Twilight series. Both Twilight and Underworld tell stories that revolve around vampires and werewolves. While Twilight is more of a love story, this film focus more on the fight. Underworld is also about the lifelong fight between werewolves and vampires in a modern setting. It wouldn’t seem out of place to either one of these films on merchandise sold at Hot Topic, so if you enjoy Twilight, but can’t make it out to see Breaking Dawn Part 2, give Underworld a try.
The Expendables 2 (2012)
The Expendables 2 stars nearly every action star ever. It promises to take the action and stunts from the first movie and multiply them to give a much bigger action film experience. Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terry Crews, and Jason Statham are just a few of the league of action heroes in The Expendables 2.
A Bronx Tale (1993)
A Bronx Tale is directed by and stars Robert DeNiro as a blue collar New Yorker trying to raise his son in a crime riddled city. When his son gets mixed up with the local crime boss (played by Chazz Palminteri), DeNiro does what he can do to try to protect his son from a dishonest life. Palminteri offers his own version of sage advice, however, and teaches the boy a different prospect on certain aspects of life. The film deals with life and loss in a very real way and offers a few life lessons, making for a very emotional and entertaining movie.
A Bronx Tale Netflix Synopsis: In this evocative slice-of-life film, a Bronx boy grows to adulthood worshipping disparate heroes: his hardworking father, who drives a city bus, and the neighborhood mob boss, who becomes a kind of surrogate dad.
