Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of The Dark Knight Rises: Inception

Inception is Christopher Nolan’s most recent non-Batman film. The movies both have a major cinematic force with great writing, story telling, and world building. He created possibly the most interesting movie version of Batman’s world. Inception has the same level of fascinating elements in a film that is Nolan’s own original work. The story is engrossing and leaves a lot to be discussed when the films is over. If you don’t feel like beating the crowds to catch The Dark Knight Rises, Inception should satiate your hunger for a blockbuster.

Silent House

This will definitely be a divisive film for any audience. You might love the whole thing, or love the beginning and hate the ending, or hate everything about it. But there’s certainly aspects to admire no matter your take overall. Yeah, this is the movie that consists of one single tracking shot (not take, but good enough) throughout its running time and it’s really interesting to watch how they’re able to pull it off. And with that comes the subject of the camera—Elizabeth Olsen. She’s stunning to watch and could possibly sell the whole movie and make you forgive its shortcomings. The members of the FTS crew that saw it ended up really liking this movie, and I think you should give it a try.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Spinal Tap is a fictional band that fits right in with the actual bands that are involved in the scene the film is parodying. Of course, Spinal Tap is in on the joke. This movie has a great comedy pedigree. The movie stars Micheal McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, and Rob Reiner. All four actors also wrote the film, along with Spinal Tap’s music. A lot of the scenes in the film are based off of actual events that happened to real bands. It’s a lot of fun to watch and the songs are available if you need more Spinal Tap after This is Spinal Tap‘s credits roll.

This Is Spinal Tap Netflix Synopsis: Rob Reiner’s cult satire about a fictional heavy metal group named Spinal Tap spoofs nearly every facet of rock ‘n’ roll — from vacuous modern songwriting and half-baked album promos to pyrotechnic concerts. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer portray the washed-up, aging British rockers whose tresses and egos outstrip their talent, with Reiner appearing as the filmmaker who’s chronicling the band’s calamitous comeback tour.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
