Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit a home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

In Theaters
Instead of The Grey: Taken
I’m pretty sure anyone checking out The Grey is already being influenced by their love of the other Liam Neeson action joint Taken. But what’s wrong with giving it another go? I mean, it’s awesome, right? Taken stars Neeson as a professional ‘badass daughter getter backer’ and has him traveling over to Europe and kicking everyone’s ass. It’s perhaps  almost a perfect action film and you should watch it now if you need a theater substitute.

Instead of Man On A Ledge: The Italian Job
While Man On A Ledge is entertaining enough, it might not be a film your dying to spend $11 on. If you’re looking for a fun thriller to catch at home, we suggest renting of buying 2003’s The Italian Job. It holds up with the same type of absurd action and is a fun film to watch with friends. And if older flicks are your thing, definitely check out the original film available on Netflix instant watch.

Instead of One For The Money: Knocked Up
You should really consider watching Knocked Up in place of everything else Katherine Heigl has ever done. Her name is slowly becoming synonymous with not only romantic comedies, but shitty movies. Her latest, One For The Money, doesn’t look any better as it has her playing a bounty hunter. Do yourself a favor and check her out in the comedic gem Knocked Up. The film is available on amazon’s instant video.

The Best on DVD & Blu Ray:

Drive

Drive (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]
With the other new releases this week consisting of The Thing prequel, one of FTS’ most hated movies of 2011 The Big Year, the severely misguided Dream House and the underwhelming sci-fi thriller In Time, picking Drive is by far the only DVD/Blu Ray you need to look at this week. Drive is possibly the coolest film of 2011, mixing sex and sleaze into a tension filled drama about a mysterious driver that works himself into a whole mess of trouble.

Netflix Instant Watch Pick of the Week:

Hot Tube Time Machine
Netflix Synopsis: Fueled by energy drinks, vodka and nostalgia for their younger, wilder days, a group of aging best friends travels back in time to 1986, where they get the chance to relive the best year of their lives. And their time machine? Well, it’s a hot tub. John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Crispin Glover and Sebastian Stan co-star in this out-of-the-box comedy that takes timetravel to a whole new level.
Netflix instant watch is currently streaming one of 2009’s most underrated comedies. Hot Tub Time Machine works because of it’s hilarious cast, all working at their absolute best and it’s ability to keep an absurd premise reigned in just enough. It’s a film filled with great gags, quotable lines and goofy cameos. Non-stop laughs throughout. “Great white buffalo.”
