Kate Winslet is everyone’s favorite actress. Well maybe not for the Academy. Until her win for her role in The Reader, Kate was nominated five times for an Oscar with no wins. The actress is still consistently fantastic, choosing interesting roles and delivering one of a kind performances. Take a peak at what we think are Kate Winslet’s best movie roles:
5. Rose – Titanic
Of course the role of Rose in Titanic had to make this list just on status alone. Kate looked elegent and was stand-out as the morally rich women of wealth. She played the iconic role with warmth, poise and sex appeal, which is a difficult mix to master. Plus prime boobage!
4. Hanna Schmitz – The Reader
The Reader wasn’t the best reviewed film of 2008 but Kate Winslet’s performance definitely connected with critics. Her portrayal of a secret and seductive woman (and then found out to be a Nazi prison guard) helped her add another fine gig for her resume and an Academy Award to boot.
3. Juliet Hulme – Heavenly Creatures
Kate broke into stardom with the compelling Peter Jackson directed drama Heavenly Creatures. At the age of 17, Winslet proved she was one to watch. Her performance as an imaginative and obsessive school girl was without question, disturbing and effective.
2. Sarah Pierce – Little Children
Another great performance in one of my favorite films. Winslet plays the role of a frumpy stay at home mom Sarah Peirce, who is bored but insecure. She conveys so much about her character with subtle facial expressions and body language throughout the film that it makes you feel like you know much more about the character than what is written in the script.
1. Clementine – Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
In one of the most memorable roles on the list, Winslet is perfect as Clementine, an eccentric and blunt love interest. She commands the screen, creating a character that is irresistible but mad. She is careful to avoid a one note choice of playing her “quirky.” Kate displays just the right amount of detail to make a character that is whimsical but complex. Clementine’s most enticing traits turn out to be her biggest downfall.
