Rob is constantly being bombarded by people telling him “you haven’t seen ____? You gotta check it out.” Or hearing critics rave “this movie is a classic, a must see.” So Rob decided that from now on every time he actually watches one of these flicks, he’ll give us his take on whether the film will live up to the hype or fall short.
So, what’s the deal with Juno?
I finally watched Juno after two failed attempts. I turned the movie off twice, literally at the same moment both times. When Juno’s friend says “Honest to blog?”, I couldn’t keep my thumb away from the stop button. At this point in the movie I’ve seen three characters, who were all written pretty similarly, and this line was a boiling point for me. But this time I had a watching buddy in Jess, who helped me make it through that scene.

That was definitely the worst scene in the movie and it got better from there. The other characters that are introduced are generally pretty interesting. J.K. Simmons and Jason Bateman both do well in their roles and, even though I usually don’t care for Jennifer Garner, she did the best in this role as any movie I’ve seen. I still wish they would have casted a different actress for this role though. She doesn’t seem like she belong in this quirky of a film.
The movie name checks a lot of bands and songs that I enjoy, it was sort of weird to hear Jason Bateman talk about touring with The Melvins. But, Juno says that Sonic Youth sucks because they are just noise, so obviously Diablo Cody didn’t want people to think she was trying to be cool.
Overall, having avoided the movie for quite some time, I found myself enjoying it after finally breaking down. I still don’t think I like it as much as some people, but I would recommend it to people who like movies with animation in opening sequences/ scene transitions.
