As a beer lover, I often find myself selecting out a brew to fit my mood. And as a movie lover, most of the time the two go hand in hand. So I decided to share some pairings of film and beer that I think go great together. Take a look at my pick of the month and hopefully you will enjoy it.

The Truth is Flying Dog’s new Imperial IPA. This style has been very popular over the past few years and Flying Dog admits on the label that adding this beer to their roster will bring in new customers. It’s part of The Truth’s truth in advertising. The beer itself is different than the brewery’s traditional IPA, which is more akin to an English style IPA. The Truth takes a much more American style approach, using Northwest hops and a lighter malt base. This recipe is closer to what most people expect from an Imperial IPA.

Liar Liar

Liar Liar is a classic Jim Carrey comedy. He plays a lawyer (Fletcher Reede) who often bends or breaks the truth in order to win cases. He also tends to put work in front of his kid. Disappointed by missing out on a trip promised to him by his father, his son wishes that it was impossible for his father to tell a lie. Of course, this goes against Reede’s courtroom tactics, as well as his general interactions with coworkers and strangers. Carrey does a great job of keeping the character believable while reacting in hilarious ways.

Both products put an emphasis on the truth. The movie shows the virtue of living a truthful life to better the lives of your family. The campaign for The Truth is focused on selling beer. Either is noble in my opinion. Advertising and law are considered two professions that tend to bend the truth to get results. Liar Liar shows what good can come from telling the truth in law and I hope that Flying Dog shows that telling the truth in advertising also turns out to be successful because the beer is delicious.
