As a beer lover, I often find myself selecting out a brew to fit my mood. And as a movie lover, most of the time the two go hand in hand. So I decided to share some pairings of film and beer that I think go great together. Take a look at my pick of the month and hopefully you will enjoy it.
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
Sierra Nevada releases their Celebration Ale at the end of every year as a seasonal release. It is a generously malted, generously hopped IPA that is known for its use of whole cone hops to give the beer a fresh, crisp bitterness. The amount of malt doesn’t add any cloying sweetness to the beer; it still has a noticeable hop bite. This beer is looked forward to by many people each year. Since it is seasonal, its easier to find fresh Celebration Ale. Sierra Nevada brews a few batches of it during the release period as well, so its a coveted beer that is generally easy to obtain.
Christmas Vacation
Christmas Vacation is a sequel in the series of National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. The film stars Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, a father trying to give his kids a great Christmas. As is Clark Griswold’s luck, numerous things go wrong with this goal. Most of it is the regular things people have to deal with, like setting up the Christmas lights (of course Clark has more trouble with this than normal people have) and worrying about his Christmas bonus. Being that this is a comedy, it doesn’t get too dramatic, however. This movie is a classic holiday film.
Each of these represent Christmas to a lot of different people. Celebration Ale forces you to enjoy it primarily during the winter season because of its limited availability. Christmas Vacation is definitely enjoyed by some people year-round, but the best time to watch it is during the Christmas season. And watching this film should easily fit into your yearly holiday routine. The crisp flavor of Celebration Ale matches the weather outside, which makes it enjoyable to drink inside while you sit down with Christmas Vacation.
